BASE-Gestió d’Ingressos manages the MOT parking app

12/09/2024  |  BASE-Gestió d'Ingressos

Facilitating the payment of regulated on-street parking with time limits or activating electric vehicle charging points are some of the mobility-related utilities offered by the MOT app. The Autonomous Body BASE-Gestió d’Ingressos of Diputació de Tarragona has been managing this publicly owned technological tool since September 2024.

Created in 2016 by the Reus City Council, under the name Aparcar (literally, To Park), the app initially served this one municipality and, over the years, expanded to other municipalities in the region: Tarragona, Salou, Cambrils, Valls, Vila-seca, and Montblanc, and even outside the region, as it is the case with Girona. The app currently has 380.000 registered users (170.000 active in 2024), 40% of whom use it in different municipalities. In 2023, more than 2.8 million parking sessions were managed through the app in the towns where it is currently implemented, and in 2024, this figure has exceeded 3 million sessions.

This fact proves the success of this technological tool promoted and developed by a public administration, which has crossed municipal boundaries. In this regard, and with the aim of expanding the service throughout the territory and promoting sustainable mobility, the technical teams of Diputació de Tarragona and the Reus City Council have worked in a coordinated manner to successfully transfer the appl to Diputació de Tarragona.

Through the MOT app, users can manage the payment of regulated on-street parking with time limits and other urban mobility-related utilities, such as the real-time activation and monitoring of electric vehicle charging points. Furthermore, work is underway to expand its functionalities with other aspects related to mobility, such as dynamic information on urban public transport, public transport payment, or bicycle rental, among others. The management of the MOT app will represent an annual investment of 50.000 euros by Diputació de Tarragona, which could be increased to 100.000 euros annually.
